Frequently Asked Questions:
These questions / answers may help you in deciding if Tae Kwon Do
is right for you. If you have any other questions, don't
hesitate to call or E-Mail us. WHAT DOES
TAE KWON DO OFFER ?
Tae Kwon Do is a great cardiovascular workout.
Also, since Tae Kwon Do includes many kicking techniques which
require balance and proper form, stabilizer muscles such as the
abdominals and lower back are also strengthened. Students
can also expect to see an improvement in flexibility.
Stretching is a key factor of Tae Kwon Do and increased
flexibility will help students inside or out of class. Tae Kwon Do
is one of the most effective and powerful arts of self-defense, it
gives students the tools to protect themselves and their loved
ones. Physical conditioning isn't the only improvement
students will see. The student of Tae Kwon Do gradually
develops improved self-confidence and self-respect through their
training as well. By going through each belt level, and
completing small goals to lead to a larger one, perseverance is
developed. Methods of mental concentration, proper breathing
and relaxation are also taught.
WHO CAN LEARN TAE KWON DO ?
Anyone, regardless of age sex or current
physical condition can learn Tae Kwon Do. The only prerequisite to
Tae Kwon Do training is the desire to improve oneself physically,
mentally, and spiritually while learning techniques that could
save your life.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TAE KWON DO?
Proficiency in the art depends upon the
individual student's time spent in practice. Tae Kwon
Do can never be fully learned because there is always room
for improvement. At every belt level, even high rank black
belt levels, there is always another goal to achieve. The
comparison we like to use is as follows: all color belt
ranks (white - black belt candidate) are equivilent to elementary
and high school. Black Belt level signifies that you have
graduated high school, but have not yet gone to college.
This illustrates that Black Belt isn't the end of your journey,
it's like a new beginning. Students promote only if they
have taken the required amount of classes and Masters Ralph and
Maria feel they are ready. It may seem long at first, but
soon students realize it goes much quicker than they think.
I'D LOVE TO LEARN TAE KWON DO, BUT I DON'T
LIKE COMPETITION, IS IT REQUIRED?
Absolutely not. Although Tae Kwon Do is a
competitive sport and our academy does partake in tournaments,
students are never required to participate in competition.
Don't be surprised though, if you soon start to find yourself
wanting to compete against others once you get more comfortable.
I'M NOT ATHLETIC AT ALL AND DON'T LIKE
PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS, IS TAE KWON DO RIGHT FOR ME?
Sure! Even non-athletes can participate in Tae
Kwon Do. Unlike other sports, students in Tae Kwon Do are
not graded by being compared to others. Instead, they are
graded on their individual improvements. If students are
improving, and showing that they are giving their all, they will
be successful. Very often people don't like the nature of
other sports, where the players who aren't as good are 'bench
warmers' while the better ones participate. This doesn't
happen in Tae Kwon Do. Every student gets a chance to
participate.
